Guided Rides
Of course, you can ride daily on your own from your door into the valley and mountains.
Here are some sample guided tours:
Four-Gondola Tour
For those who’ve just dreamed of a full day riding downhill, the Four-Gondola Tour is probably as close as youíll get. It runs across four 6,000-foot mountain peaks, through pastures and valleys, and along forest paths and high-mountain single track. Lifts take us to the summits, where weíll rest for a moment before taking off downhill, primarily on singletrack. In total, weíll drop more than 10,000 feet. The thrill of speed is included in the deal, along with phenomenal Alpine panoramas. Weíll cover a total of about 35 miles–with some uphill stretches to keep you from getting spoiled. Shorter variations are also available depending on group size and ability. (There is a surcharge of 25 euros for this program, payable on site, due to the additional cost of the lifts.)
- Distance: about 35 miles
- Vertical climb: 2,200 feet
- Fitness level: 3 of 5
- Level of difficulty: 3 of 5
- Expected duration: 7 hours
The Hundstein
This is the highest summit to climb on a mountainbike in this area with a very long and hard climb of more than 5,000 meters in one go. The panorama on top is absolutely fantastic and whoever has been on the Hundstein is a real “Mountainbike-King!” At 6,646 feet, the Hundstein is the highest peak you can bike on in this region. On a clear day you can see the summits of the Dachstein (8,861 feet), Hochkönig (9,648 feet), Grossvenediger (12,053 feet) and Grossglockner (12,460 feet). We can choose from a variety of ways to the Hundstein. One of them is single track with an altitude difference of more than 3,000 feet.We start from Maria Alm at the base station of the Aberg cable car. We bike uphill towards Christernreit and continue to the Wastlalm. We pass the Kröllalm and recover a little bit at the flattest part of the ascent. After a bit of descending we pass the Lohningalm and then fight our way up again. From the Neukaseralm we ride until the peak of the Hundstein. On our way down, after about 1,500 feet, we turn left onto single-track. At an altitude of about 6,000 feet, we follow the trail towards the right. It will take us to Gasthof Waldheim, a small forest inn at the end of the single-track. We follow the road to the village of Thumersbach.
